OMEN ORTIZ, CHAIRMAN OF THE 1ST MANILA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Omen Ortiz, the Chairman of the Manila International Film Festival

“Humility and be humble” words that he constantly he lived by, Omen Ortiz was very ambitious, he credits his life experience as his schooling, combined with reading and writing and manners, he believes it is recipe for success. He never dreamed of finishing college, his dream was either to become a fire fighter or a politician.

In the 70’s he was acting with PETA, (Philippine Educational Theatre Association) and some television gigs with veteran actress Hilda Koronel. In the 80’s he migrated in the United States and was men’s fashion designer. In the 90’s,  he was part of  the Gianni Versace team for about seven years. 

After ten years of being a fire fighter, he semi-retired finding himself for the next four years traveling between United States and Manila. Once again found himself in the fashion industry while working with Hermes, a gig he did for about 6 years.

Now, he is dedicated in giving back to the Filipino community.

Omen speaks 3 Languages, Tagalog, English and French. He had lived in Paris for three years and a spent a year in London. In his free time – Omen paints.

With the Manila International Film Festival just around the corner, Omen says that it took an entire “village” of Filipinos coming together. Combined with determination, a lot of good will and tons of support from the local community to get this far. 

We Filipinos are known for the “Bayanihan culture” – helping out each other to make it to the top. This is just the 1st of many,  for the talented Filipino Cinematic Community. A way to start the year.
